We finished off with a shortish game of poker, Texas Hold
'Em style. I had received a nice set of poker chips for my birthday and
both Nige and I watch a bit of poker on TV. None of us would play for
serious money but Nige was very keen to have a go. Mark K shot out to an
early lead as chip leader and never really relinquished the lead, taking
advantage of his large stack to bet on most pots. Nige claims he had
hardly any cards and did not bet at all until very late in the game. I
tried mixing it up a bit and saw off Mark G's chips, but then got stuffed
going all in when the river card favoured Mark K, when I was a strong
favourite for the hand until then. Eventually Nige got picked off by Mark
K, giving him a second win of the evening.
This was quite good fun but the elimination nature of
poker means it's not a great choice for a club game. First one out is
likely to be twiddling their thumbs for a while.
